Why is Stretching Important? 

You may think of stretching as something performed only by runners orgymnasts. But we all need to stretch in order to protect our mobility andindependence. "A lot of people don't understand that stretching has to happenon a regular basis. It should be daily," says David Nolan, a physicaltherapist at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital.

 

Use while seated or supine to stretch the plantar fascia, foot, or calf

While seated on the chair or floor, pull the strap toward you to stretchthe bottom of the foot/plantar fascia. This stretch is commonly prescribed tothose who suffer from plantar fasciitis. The position can also be used tostretch the calf with the leg fully extended.

 

Use while standing or lying face-down to stretch the quadriceps (quads) Ifstanding, it is recommended a chair or other stationary object be used forbalance. To stretch the quadriceps, use your free hand and arm to pull upwardson the strap, moving your heel up and toward your seat, effectively stretchingthe quads.

 

Stretch the outer hip, hamstring, and gluteus while supine, use thestrap to guide your foot across the body in a controlled motion to stretch thehip and glute. Pulling the strap toward you in this position can also provide astretch to the hamstrings.

How Many Ways Can I Stretch?

The Stretch Flex can be worn in three unique orientations toaccommodate different stretching positions. Choose from the threeconfigurations to target separate muscle groups.

 

Placement Option 1

This is the most common placement option used to stretch the arch of thefoot (plantar fascia) or calf. Place heel in the opening of the fabric. Securethe hook and loop strap around the ankle. Grab one of the loops stitched into the strap to control the stretch.

 

Placement Option 2

This configuration is used to stretch the quadricep. Insert foot intothe opening of the fabric. Secure the hook and loop strap around ankle. Grab one of the loopsstitched into the strap to control the stretch.

 

Placement Option 3

This placement is ideal for stretches where plantar fascia and calfstretching is not desired. Place heel at the opening of the fabric. Secure the hook and loop straparound the ankle.
